Subsidies for research and innovation projects in collaboration with the "la Caixa" Foundation
Barcelona City Council, in collaboration with the "la Caixa" Foundation, promotes a biannual line of subsidies for research and innovation projects, the aim of which is to address the challenges facing the city of Barcelona. This initiative seeks to foster collaboration between research centres, third sector organisations and the city's economic fabric to develop research in areas such as community health, the digitalisation of the city, ageing, quality of life and climate emergency.
Through this line of grants, the aim is to inform future policy decisions to improve the quality of life of citizens and build a more sustainable and inclusive city. In addition, it aims to promote open access and the dissemination of research results to the public for an effective transfer of the knowledge generated and to contribute to the scientific culture of citizens.

The 2023 call for proposals addressed two themes: community health, and sustainability and climate change. Barcelona City Council and the "La Caixa" Foundation awarded the 2023 subsidies to the following fourteen projects:
Projects subsidised in the 2022 call for proposals
The 2022 call for proposals addressed two themes: ageing and quality of life; and mobility and respect for and protection of the environment. Barcelona City Council and the "La Caixa" Foundation awarded the 2022 grants to the following seven projects:
Projects subsidised in the 2021 call for proposals
The 2021 call for proposals covered three themes: ageing and quality of life; mobility and respect for and protection of the environment; and sustainable city: new technologies applied to housing, space and public services. Barcelona City Council and the "la Caixa" Foundation awarded the 2021 grants to seven projects, six of which were 100% funded, while the seventh received a contribution of 73% of the budget.
Projects subsidised in the 2019 call for proposals
As part of Barcelona City Council's collaboration with the "la Caixa" Foundation to subsidise research and innovation projects, 7 research projects were funded in 2019-2020, with a total of 21 participating entities and an investment of 900,000 euros. The 7 subsidised projects worked on mobility and respect and protection of the environment; and ageing and quality of life:
