Subsidies and awards
Barcelona Science and Innovation aims to contribute to the growth of the scientific ecosystem of the city of Barcelona through funding programmes in the fields of research, scientific dissemination, knowledge transfer and the intersection between art and science.
In the field of research, Barcelona Science and Innovation promotes two calls for proposals: Research and Innovation, in collaboration with the "la Caixa" Foundation, which aims to generate research on the urban challenges facing the city of Barcelona and propose innovative solutions that can help design municipal public policies, and Young and Emerging Research, which seeks to consolidate scientific careers among people who are starting their careers in the field of research.
In addition, we promote the Science and Innovation line of the General Call for Grants to support scientific and academic congresses and events in the city, educational and scientific outreach activities, education, outreach and scientific culture projects, and participatory research activities. On the other hand, the Barcelona Crea Grants support artistic creation projects with a category related to scientific research, while the Crea Feina includes a subsidy package to promote research talent in the field of science and technology.
Finally, every year, the Barcelona City Council awards a series of prizes to the scientific excellence. Both at the city level, through the Ciutat de Barcelona Awards, and at the European level with the Hipatia Award, in collaboration with the Academia Europaea - Barcelona Knowledge Hub.
