Research in the city
Barcelona is one of the leading research cities in Mediterranean Europe. Its metropolitan region brings together an extensive network of infrastructures and public R&D&I centres, in addition to the research activity of universities and the private sector.
Barcelona City Council, through Barcelona Science and Innovation, promotes policies and measures to nurture talent, provide facilities for the research community, encourage the integration of research with society and project the scientific city internationally. Subsidies for research and dissemination, equality in the science system, recognition of scientific careers such as the Hypatia prize and the promotion of open science are some examples of these measures.
