La Ciutadella Knowledge Hub
A scientific and urban planning project to convert the Ciutadella Park and its surroundings into a leading node of knowledge, dissemination, research, and innovation in Europe.
The initiative envisages renovating the Ciutadella Park beyond physical improvement, as it will be given character and a sense of use and the form and content will be improved, taking into account its origins in the Universal Exhibition of 1888 and the assets that today exist around the park: universities, museums, research centres, foundations, and companies.
It includes providing the UPF campus with three new buildings located in the research complex of the old Mercat del Peix, creating a new CSIC bioscience centre in the old Parque Móvil building, creating the Central Library of Barcelona, consolidating an axis of facilities of high heritage and scientific value formed by the Martorell Museum and the Castle of the Three Dragons (Natural Science Museum of Barcelona), the Greenhouse and the Umbracle, and promoting and reinforcing the scientific activity of the Zoo.
La Ciutadella Knowledge Hub is a project led by Barcelona City Council in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia, the Ministries of Science and Innovation, Pompeu Fabra University, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Barcelona, the Higher Council for Scientific Research, the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology.
