Environmental Education Document Service
The Environmental Education Document Service (SDEA) is a learning space that offers environmental education information and resources for people and organisations interested in education for sustainability, especially in an urban setting. It’s located in the Barceloneta neighbourhood, at the municipal Fàbrica del Sol facility.
The SDEA is one of Barcelona City Council’s departmental libraries, and so it works in collaboration with the Documents and Access to Knowledge Service (SEDAC), in order to provide a better service and share resources. In terms of organisational structure, it is attached to the Office for Climate Change and Sustainability Services Directorate, which in turn is part of Barcelona City Council’s Area of City Services and Public Space Maintenance.
The service is part of the DocAmbCat (Network of Environmental Documentation Centres of Catalonia), a network with over 135 libraries and documentation centres that have specific collections on environmental topics and share training programmes and activities.
It is also part of the RECIDA (Network of Environmental Information and Documentation Centres), with over 140 libraries, documentation centres and protected natural spaces in the various regions of Spain. Every year, the CENEAM (National Centre for Environmental Education), sometimes together with centres in other regions, holds a seminar in which representatives of different organisations gather to exchange experiences and receive specialised training.
