The programme
More Sustainable Schools (Escoles + Sostenibles) is a specific programme that provides support and assistance to schools in the More Sustainable Barcelona Network wishing to transform their educational practice and spaces to tackle the challenges of sustainability and the climate emergency.
Participants belong to a wider network, the More Sustainable Barcelona Network. It currently includes around 2,000 organisations – including close to 400 schools – that work together for a Barcelona that acts responsibly towards both people and the environment. The Network is made up of citizen associations, business and commercial organisations, schools, universities, professional associations, trade unions and public institutions. Members of the public have recently started to join it as well.
The main goals of the More Sustainable Schools programme are:
- To promote processes that encourage the incorporation of sustainability criteria in schools.
- To support the educational community in the transformation towards education for sustainability.
- To encourage schools to exchange experiences and partner with each other.
- To highlight and recognise schools’ contribution in the transition towards a more sustainable Barcelona.
- To come together for the city, linking educational projects to the urban context and environment.
