"Mirada blava"
Approximately 40% of the world population lives in coastal areas. The sea produces oxygen and regulates the climate, creating a milder climate that facilitates life along the coastline. In addition, the development of fishing, industry and transport in this environment makes it one of the drivers of the global economy.
One of the 21st century’s main challenges for a more sustainable future is managing this resource that is so important for our lives. In spite of this, society has become completely unaware of its dependence on the sea. In order to protect the ocean, which has become one of the world’s priorities, we must pass on this knowledge to the future generations.
The teams at the Coastal Office and the Climate Change and Sustainability Office are working with the More Sustainable Schools programme to help you by promoting education on the seas and oceans in schools.
