City events
The office runs citizen science and research projects attached to different city days.
It does this in two ways. One, by creating its own spaces within major city events, such as the Science Festival or the City and Science Biennial. It also promotes the organisation of specific events, such as the Citizen Science Day.
Citizen Science Day
The Citizen Science Day is a specialised day for sharing and discussing various aspects of the practice of citizen science and its constant evolution. Throughout the day, results, strategies and challenges are presented among professionals and different agents involved in the projects assigned to the office and referents from other cities are invited.
Science Festival
Since its creation, the Citizen Science Office has played an important role in the framework of the Science Festival. Every year, the event celebrates the science and innovation generated in Barcelona and its area of influence with the public.
During the Festival, the office, and the research centres and organisations involved in its projects organise interactive activities and workshops aimed at the public. The aim is to promote citizen participation in scientific projects. In turn, through these activities, the public can learn about the importance of citizen science, and learn first-hand how collaborative projects can positively influence scientific research and decision-making at the local level.
City & Science Biennial
Each edition of the City and Science Biennial promotes reflection on the practice of citizen science and participatory research methodologies.
Topics such as the impact on the educational environment, the exploration of new formulas to involve citizens, the debate on the degree of maturity of citizen science, and the capacity to influence public policies and the activation of solutions to urban problems are addressed.
