On 12 May, the first activity of the new cycle #ArtScience23 will take place in the gardens of the Julio Muñoz Ramonet Foundation (at Carrer de Muntaner, 282) to explore with the public the intersections between art and science. The facility presents a new programme developed with the support of Barcelona Science and Universities which, in this case, focuses on the concept of time and includes storytelling, citizen science, dance, performance, dialogues, documentaries, workshops… In total, the cycle brings together nineteen activities that will be held over the coming months, until 15 December.

The cycle is structured in monthly thematic blocks in the context of which the activities invite us to reflect on the concept of time from different perspectives: as a physical concept, as a cultural artifice, as something that everyone experiences first-hand and that marks the cycles of life. Thus, during the month of May, the activities will delve into the measurement of time; in June, they will analyse what summer time means to us; in July, they will make us discern between natural and artificial reality; in September, they will make us look back to review the evolution of life on Earth; in October, they will take us into autumn; and in November, they will reflect on how we do it to preserve for posterity moments of a time that does not stop.

May: the measure of time

By way of example, this month, the programme will begin on 12 May with the dramatised reading Lo matí de ma infantesa, with text and performance by Jordi Lara and music by Agnès Prats, which explores the relationship between time and space. On 20 May, the cycle will bring us closer to RitmeNatura, a citizen science project promoted by CREAF that studies the phenological changes of living beings and how they are being affected by climate change. In the case of #ArtScience23, RitmeNatura will make it possible to monitor how the Foundation’s garden evolves throughout the year. And on 26 May, the dance performance Rítmies, by Emma Villavechia, and a subsequent colloquium will explore the geometric, sensorial and poetic dimension of rhythm from different scientific and artistic points of view.

In the agenda of the Julio Muñoz Ramonet Foundation you can consult all the activities included in this new #ArtScience2023 cycle dedicated to time, and for more information, you can download the programme in PDF. All the activities are free and open access until full capacity is reached, so take note of the ones you are most interested in and don’t let the time catch you!
