The new bike lane in Carrer Mallorca adds a major cycling route to the city’s network
Cyclists can now use the two new bike lane sections in C/ Mallorca, which as from today enable users to get from C/ Sicília to C/ Rocafort, and continue along Av. Roma, between Rocafort and Nicaragua. The new horizontal route is over five kilometres long, crossing the city in the direction of the Llobregat and connecting the neighbourhoods of Sant Andreu, La Sagrera, Sagrada Família and other neighbourhoods in L’Eixample, with the station in Sants.
The work was funded with European Next Generation Funds and carried out in two sections of C/ Mallorca, between the streets of Sicília and Comte d’Urgell, and between C/ Comte Borrell and C/ Tarragona. Improvements have also been made in the existing bike lane section between the streets of Cartagena and Sicília.
The new one-way bike lane is mainly located next to the pavement on the side nearest the sea in C/ Mallorca. In the section in Av. Roma, the bike lane is located along the side lane nearest the mountains. The lane is segregated with separating elements and features bike parking in an inverted U shape.
In the section between the streets of Comte d’Urgell and Comte Borrell, the layout did not allow for a bike lane and so the solution adopted includes a cycling route that shares space with traffic.
Another new bike lane in Carrer Santa Fe de Nou Mèxic
The district of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi also has a new bike lane section, in C/ Santa Fe de Nou Mèxic, between the streets of Doctor Fleming and Ganduxer. This one-way lane is located on the side of the street nearest the mountains and goes in the direction of the Besòs.
