New bike lane section open in Av. Meridiana between Las Navas de Tolosa - Josep Estivill and Felip II
The new section provides continuity for the existing section between the streets of Independència and Las Navas de Tolosa. Cyclists will circulate along the centre of the road, using a two-way segregated lane. The section is part of the urban regeneration project for Av. Meridiana, replacing the one-way bike lanes that were on the pavements here before. The lane is now more central and is completely segregated from traffic and pedestrians, with its own traffic lights for cyclists to ensure maximum safety.
When it reaches Pl. Ferran Reyes and the Jardins de Maria Sotera Mauri, the bike lane splits into two, with a one-way lane in the road on each side of the central section, which becomes broader and is exclusively for use by pedestrians.
Work on this new cycling infrastructure was carried out in parallel to the work to transform this section of Av. Meridiana. Besides bicycles, this area will have two traffic lanes on each side and one lane for buses, plus wider pavements and more trees and parterres.
