New Passeig Mar Bella to adapt to the effects of the climate crisistica
The transformation of Passeig Mar Bella has been adjusted to guarantee the future of the beaches. The remodelling process aims to boost use by local people and sports uses in a greener and more resilient space, connected to the neighbourhoods. Work gets under way in the spring of 2025.
Passeig Mar Bella is the final section of the city coast still to be renewed. Once the transformation is completed, the layout will consist of:
- A pedestrian path, 12 metres wide.
- A lane for bikes and scooters, 4 metres wide.
- Beach bars, games, spaces to spend time in and grandstands.
- 15,000 square metres of greenery with a thousand trees.
- Permeable paving.
- Two photovoltaic pergolas.
The remodelling project for Passeig Mar Bella will be executed in three stages. The first begins in the spring of 2025 and includes the revamp to the central section, between Bac de Road and the Plataforma Marina del Fòrum
Measures to preserve the beaches
The project includes moving back part of the sea wall to enlarge the beach and guarantee its sand, and strengthening the wall to make it more resistant to waves and storms. These measures will help protect the coast against storms such as the one that damaged the infrastructure in 2023.
The remodelling project for Passeig Mar Bella forms part of the measures in the Climate Plan to prepare the city for the challenges of the climate crisis.
