SIX NOTEBOOKS AND A NEW ORIGIN: FIFTY YEARS OF PEDROLO’S 'MECANOSCRIT'
From Martín Pardo’s recent graphic novel to Albert Villaró’s YA work Tercer origen [Third Origin], 2024 is full of tributes to the 50th anniversary of Manuel de Pedrolo’s post-apocalyptic best-seller Mecanoscrit del segon origen [translated into English as Typescript of the Second Origin]. Alba and Dídac’s survival adventure, perhaps the most widely read such work in Catalan, starts out in the town of Benaura, often identified as Tàrrega, and spans a journey over the course of six notebooks that children’s and YA literature experts Glòria Gorchs and Cristina Casalí have used as the structure for this exhibition/laboratory full of tributes, learning and interactive elements for young people and adults alike. Organised by the IBBYCAT-CLIJCAT org organisation for children’s/YA literature in Catalan in collaboration with the 42 Festival, with author Edgar Cotes and leading Mecanoscrit expert Anna M. Moreno Bedmar as consultants. The exhibition can be visited at any time throughout the 42 Festival on the third floor of the Fabra i Coats building but the opening presentation event will feature all the people behind it, who will discuss the relevance and scope of the work, answer participants’ questions and offer a guided tour to anyone interested.
