American thinker, activist and professor john a. powell will be reflecting on anti-racist strategies, othering and the sense of belonging.

The event will be moderated by a journalist and will include a front row made up of anti-racist organisations, questions from the audience, and will have simultaneous interpretation.

john a. powell is an American academic and expert in social and racial justice, and the director of the Othering & Belonging Institute at the University of California, Berkeley. With an extensive career in the field of social and racial justice, powell is known for his analysis of othering, a process through which certain social groups are dehumanised and excluded; powell proposes creating societies based on belonging, in which everyone is recognised and has a place.

His work has influenced movements such as Black Lives Matter and provides a framework for understanding inequalities. Advocating for inclusion and justice, powell seeks to break down the barriers that perpetuate exclusion and works to promote more equitable communities.
