18th Arab and Mediterranean Film Festival of Catalonia
Activity finished
Promoted and organised by the NGO Sodepau, the Mostra de Cinema Àrab i Mediterrani de Catalunya [Arab and Mediterranean Film Festival of Catalonia] is a film festival that came into being thanks to the support of Beirut DC, a Lebanese film-makers’ collective united by their eagerness to make films and show them beyond their borders.
The Festival aims to open a window to Arab films in Catalonia, a cinematography that is widely unknown and barely ever shown on the big screen in our country.
It also came about with the intention of breaking down stereotypes about what is known as the “Arab world”, a western perspective on the East that masks and simplifies, with very little regard, a wealth of realities that are richer, more diverse and more complex than we think.
The festival also seeks to serve as a soundboard for the desires, concerns, contradictions and conflicts of the peoples of the Mediterranean.
During this ten-day festival, in addition to film screenings, there will be a number of gatherings and opportunities for debate.
