Serge Attukwei Clottey (Ghana, 1985) covers the early Modernista building of the Museu Tàpies, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, with a second skin composed of tesserae made from waste material.
Using yellow containers or galloons (initially used as cooking oil cans and later recycled to collect water), the artist composes fragmented canvases that reveal his concern for the culture and identity of the city he was born and lives in, and invites people to reflect on environmentalism, the prevailing worldwide economic system and migration.
The project implements a programme of dialogue and collaboration with migrant communities living in the city of Barcelona and other institutions: an inaugural route and performance by the artist, a film programme dedicated to the film-maker Sarah Maldorora, pioneer of pan-African cinema, and the seminar “Arquitectures de la pell: del cos al carrer” [Architectures of the skin: from the body to the street], where issues such as the environment, migration and colonialism are addressed from different disciplines.
The art installation from the project entitled Afterlife Voyage, can be seen on the façade of the Museu Tàpies 24 hours a day.
