As part of the Tardor de Pau (Autumn of Peace) series of activities, there will be a screening and discussion of the film The Odd-Job Men, which explores the boundaries between fiction and documentary, featuring a cast of non-professional actors portraying their daily lives. Beneath a veneer of humour, lightness and everyday life, the six stories contained within offer a deep reflection on the prejudices that surface when we are compelled to live alongside someone different from ourselves. A new perspective on one of the greatest challenges facing our diverse and intercultural society: the challenge of understanding others. The film by Neus Ballús, The Odd-Job Men, based on real situations and characters, portrays the daily lives of Moha, Valero and Pep, workers at a small plumbing and electrical company on the outskirts of Barcelona. Over the course of a week, Moha, the youngest, will have to prove that he is ready to replace Pep, who is retiring. However, Valero believes that Moha “doesn’t fit the profile” and doubts that customers will accept a Moroccan worker in their homes.
