Workshop to create a collective work inspired by Haitian rituals. By Les Rupestres
We invite you to a dynamic and creative workshop where we will be turning ritual drawings into movement. Our inspiration will be the Haitian vèvès (figures traced in plaster on the ground to invoke the gods) which the artist Maya Deren* photographed and studied, captivated by their symbolism and connection with dance.
Based on this idea, we’ll be creating a game which we can use to design different boxes combining a drawing and a movement, using them with musical rhythms, dancing them and transforming them into an authentic collective choreography.
Ready to dance our drawings?
(*) On the occasion of the temporary exhibition at the museum “Maya Deren. A Cadence of Images”. Born in 1917, her work generates a dialogue between different disciplines such as film, poetry, dance and spirituality, based on her journeys and research in Haiti.
