This exhibition seeks to further develop the link between the heritage pieces in the museum’s collections and the contemporary, in this case, more precisely, the most current artistic creation. The main aim is for these contemporary creations to stimulate new readings that activate the ethnographic content of the collections, giving them new senses and meanings.
The exhibition narrative revolves around the dialogue established between nine artistic/discursive projects and historical pieces, in a concept of open space without enclosed areas, where visual processes and reflections combine.
Selected and curated by Rosa Lleó, the exhibition space features proposals created by Agnes Essonti, Chenta Tsai Tseng, Chiara Camoni, Domènec, Lydia Ourahmane, Nikki Luna, Patricia Domínguez, Regina de Miguel and Ruta de autor.
The starting point for the project is the invitation to the artists to enter the museum’s interior spaces that are not normally open to the public (i.e. the reserved areas where the collections are conserved), where each artist has chosen certain pieces of different origins and with multiple and varied meanings. These pieces from the museum’s collections have served as the origins, the starting point, for new creations. As a result, the exhibition brings both types of pieces together: historical artefacts have been incorporated into new creations in ways that give them new, “re-enchanted” meanings.
