Housing has been a constant challenge in the contemporary city.
The lack of housing for the working classes has been a problem shared by many large cities around the world.
The exhibition shows the building policies and patterns of access to housing for the urban majorities over the course of the twentieth century in Barcelona: from unaffordable rentals at the beginning, to a very harsh post-war period, to an almost obligatory acquisition of own homes during the late Franco regime and, finally, to advances in democracy, although interventions were more effective in public spaces than in housing.
