80 anys
In 2023, on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the institution, the new museum of citizenship opens its doors, a heritage entity of urban historical knowledge disseminated by the city and with the participation of citizens, with 55 rooms grouped in 16 heritage spaces.
The new Citizenship Museum is born
The MUHBA, the first museum of citizenship in the world, derives from the museum's Strategic Plan presented by the Institute of Culture of Barcelona on June 3, 2008. Under implementation for the period 2009-2025, it has been recognized by ICOM and other international bodies: Centre de Recerca Urbana. A synthesis, the MUHBA Atlas of the history of Barcelona, Multiplicity of languages and formats: guide booklets and MUHBA Atlas, Heritage spaces throughout the city: from the idea of 2008 to the realizations of 2023, Inauguration of heritage spaces in 2023 and a complete museum renovation in 2025.
MUHBA 80 years is the occasion to make available to the public the work done for years by a cohesive team, which even the pandemic did not interrupt. The new model of citizen museum will be officially presented in New York in September 2023 on the occasion of the ICOM/Camoc World Congress of City Museums.
