TMB records the highest ever volume of journeys on the bus and metro network in March
Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) achieved the best month of March ever, with a total of 62.9 million ticket validations. March 2025 was a record month for the metro and the bus network alike, with exceptional figures: the metro saw 42.6 million passengers while the bus network notched up 19.3 million ticket validations.

The chair of TMB, Laia Bonet, made a positive assessment of the achievement, highlighting the work of TMB professionals, who offer an efficient service to a growing number of passengers every month. “These figures show the confidence people have in TMB’s public transport networks, consolidating us as leaders in sustainable mobility”, stated Bonet. In addition, the chair reiterated the need to continually invest in infrastructures to guarantee quality service and keep responding to the growth in demand.
2024, record year for the metro and the bus
The figures are not an isolated case, but come in addition to the records achieved in 2024. The bus network recorded over 215 million ticket validations, representing a growth of 2% compared to 2019, achieving various monthly and daily records. One record that stands out is from October 2024, with 20.6 million ticket validations, the highest ever for the bus network. October also saw the highest ever figure for ticket validations in one day, with 836,295 passengers on 9 October.
As for the metro, 2024 was also a historic year, with nearly 469 million validations representing an increase of 6.5% compared to the 440 million recorded in 2023. October was a record month for the metro too, with 44.4 million validations, exceeding the record figure from May of the same year. Sant Jordi’s Day became the working day with the highest volume of passengers ever for TMB, numbering 1.8 million.
These figures highlight the importance of continuing to invest in the transport system to be able to continue offering people a sustainable quality service.
