“A faint retroactive light”
2025
Artists
MUHBA Oliva Artés - Espronceda, 142-146
Isaki Lacuesta’s audiovisual installation, inspired by lines of Louise Glück poetry (‘A faint retroactive light’ and ‘But the light will give us no peace’) combines Ylia’s electronic music and Alondra Bentley’s voice in a fully immersive experience.
What appears to be a simple reflection reveals itself as a projection that begins to subtly desynchronise from visitors’ real movements, inviting us to mirror ourselves in other people, including our own past absences and presences. The work engages in dialogue with classic video art from the 1970s and 1980s. In the end, the light fades, yet the reflections linger enigmatically in the mirror: visitors cannot see their bodies in the darkness, but they can see their reflections. This blurring of the lines between reality and reflection confronts us with the elusive nature of perception and memory.
With the collaboration of Benito.
