Solvej Balle
Solvej Balle, born in Southern Jutland, Denmark, in 1962, studied literature and philosophy. Her debut novel was Lyrefugl [The Lyre Bird], and in 1993 she wrote one of the most acclaimed works of Danish literature: Ifølge loven, Fire beretninger om mennesket [translated into English as According to the Law: Four Accounts of Mankind]. She went on to publish a poetry collection and a book on art theory. Her latest work, Om udregning af rumfang, is an ambitious seven-volume novel bringing together the themes of time loops, science fiction, memory, loneliness and love. It is being translated at numerous prestigious publishing houses, and instalments have already appeared in Catalan, Spanish and English [On the Calculation of Volume]. In 2022, she received the Nordic Council’s Literature Prize.
