SEGURANT, THE KNIGHT OF THE DRAGON: ARIOLI’S DISCOVERY
In many ways, it’s a cultural milestone: the discovery of a new Arthurian knight, a Frenchman known as Segurant the Brown, who in the times of the mythical Round Table won dozens of tournaments before falling under spells cast by Morgan le Fay and Sebile and being forced to face a fire-breathing dragon. Forgotten for centuries, this fascinating character of Arthurian literature was discovered in 2010 by Italian writer, actor and medievalist Emanuele Arioli while he was examining the Prophéties de Merlin manuscript in Paris’s Arsenal Library. Following ten years of library research in Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Germany and Great Britain, Arioli pieced together the puzzle in an exercise of erudition and enthusiasm that ultimately led to him publishing the complete work, entitled Segurant, The Knight of the Dragon, to great success in several European countries. To uncover all its secrets and tie it in with an edition of the 42 Festival where dragons will be omnipresent, professor and former editor Natàlia Sánchez will have a conversation with none other than Arioli himself, in a session that may also be something of a discovery.
