THE GREAT WAVE: TALES OF WATER, DROUGHT AND THE FUTURE
It’s no coincidence that the origin myths of many cultures feature a universal flood of some kind, or that water has become one of the main issues of our times, due to the climate, drought, sea levels, the wars it causes and so on, Water is what makes us human and allows us to live on Earth, and it’s one of the themes of this year’s 42 Festival. That’s why the first roundtable discussion in this magnificent venue will be a conversation with exceptional Institute of Marine Sciences scientist, oceanographer, researcher and specialist Josep Lluís Pelegrí; travel literature writer, tracer of invisible animals, author of the recent literary success Delta and Liternatura festival director Gabi Martínez; and 42 Award winner, fantastic genre activist and author of Els fils del mar [The Threads of the Sea] Inés Macpherson. Guided by primatologist and author Muntsa Mimó, they will explore how we narrate water, the role of information and imagination in talking about it, and, of course, the contributions of science fiction and fantasy settings, plots and characters, beyond the glut of apocalyptic narratives. If the Great Wave is already upon us, we might as well chart a new direction, and who better to have at the helm than these experts?
