DARK NIGHTMARES: TUTTLE, VERES AND THE HORROR STORY
She’s from Texas, a legendary fandom activist, winner of the Campbell Award and a refused Nebula Award, and one of the leading international horror story authors. He’s the Hungarian revelation of the year and a promising newcomer on the European weird genre scene, with strange tales that are now available in Spanish (Negro tal vez) and English (The Black Maybe) translations. The veteran author and the rising star, together with genre scholar Sergi Viciana, will have one of the most intense conversations of the fourth 42 Festival, examining the power of dark stories in all their facets, from strange and morbid fiction to cosmic horror, while also sharing some of the secrets of the art of terrifying. After all, if Veres is able to send shivers down our spine with the story of a girl who bites dogs and Tuttle, in A Nest of Nightmares, does the same with houses, bodies and even rotten-smelling trunks, it’s because both of them, as this conversation will show, know that true darkness, in a story, needs to engage all five senses.
