BUESO, BIURRUN AND THE GHOSTS LYING UNDER THE SURFACE
They’re both among the top horror authors breathing new life into the genre in Spanish, both have unique, distinctive styles and both came out with remarkable novels this year. First is Emilio Bueso from Valencia, who in February published Naturaleza muerta [Still Life], the story of an engineer who, following her divorce, moves next to a swamp to get away from medication and heartbreak, and ends up immersed in a nightmare emerging from the depths. A month later, Ismael Martínez Biurrun from Navarra took a narrative plunge (and he has several under his belt already) in Duración de un fantasma [Duration of a Ghost], the story of two brothers who play with the paranormal and several years later become new victims of the game. But synopses aside, these guests need no introduction: it’s a homecoming for both Bueso and Biurrun, who have already been at the 42 Festival, and their conversation with each other, moderated by María Pealva, is sure to be one of the great discussions this Saturday at 42.
