ARSENIC, STONES AND HAUNTED HOUSES: THE SHIRLEY JACKSON REVIVAL ACCORDING TO BERNICE M. MURPHY
Presentation
We would be remiss if we held a second ShirleyCon without inviting Ireland’s Bernice M. Murphy, a Trinity College lecturer who specialises in American Gothic fiction and is perhaps one of the world’s foremost experts in Shirley Jackson. Author of The California Gothic in Fiction and Film, editor of Jackson’s essays, consultant on her edited letters, founder of Reading Shirley Jackson in the Twenty-First Century and all-round Jackson scholar with new books in the pipeline, Murphy’s talk at the 42 Festival will be a masterclass both introductory and in-depth that will serve as inspiration for the follow-up roundtable discussion she’ll also participate in. In a nutshell, if you’re a Shirley Jackson fan or think you might want to give her a try, here’s a can’t-miss opportunity to enter her castle.
