SHIRLEY-CON 1: WHY DO WE LOVE SHIRLEY JACKSON SO MUCH?
As one of the greats that she is, she deserved it and still does: in 2023, Festival 42 presents Shirley-Con as part of its programme, a tribute to Shirley Jackson, the indisputable master of contemporary intimate horror. The activity will be divided into three parts, the first of which is this round table reflecting on the importance of Jackson's stories, as well as on her influence on subsequent writers. Layla Martínez (author of Carcoma and winner of the 42 Award in the category of breakthrough author in Spanish in 2022) and Valeria Bergalli (editor of Minúscula by Shirley Jackson) will delve deeper into the writer's life and analyse how this is reflected her works through the presence of common elements such as intolerance and difference or a fascination with household spaces. Gemma Solsona, a writer and expert in Jackson's work and the organiser of the initiative, will be in charge of leading the debate to encourage everyone to join this common fascination.
