FROM ROBINSON CRUSOE TO VICENÇ PAGÈS I JORDÀ: A FANTASTICAL HOMAGE
The recently deceased Vicenç Pagès i Jordà (Figueres, 1963 - Torroella de Montgrí, 2022) was not only a great writer who expanded the boundaries of literature but also an influencer and teacher who managed to open up new pathways that other authors soon eagerly pursued. Aptly, he also taught writing at Blanquerna and at the Aula d’Escriptura (Writers’ Workshop) of Girona. A passionate critic and tireless reader, Pagès was determined to experiment with new things in each book he wrote. To him, literature was a place to take risks and try new things, to let himself be carried away and allow his imagination to run wild. This is why it is not surprising that his most successful works include contemporary classics from the fantastical genres like the short novel Carta a la reina d’Anglaterra and the collection of short stories with fantastical touches En companyia de l’altre, not to mention his cult novel El món d’Horaci, the most ambitious project he ever embarked on. With the renowned writers Màrius Serra and Mar Bosch, and on the initiative by professor Joaquim Noguero, we will survey Pàges i Jordà's literary works and discover why his texts have become cult classics worth showcasing in the fantastical genres as well.
