THE 42'S BIG ROUNDTABLE: WHAT FUTURE SHOULD THE GENRE RECREATE?
This is now a festival classic: the roundtable with some big international names from this year's edition, a battery of essential voices brought together to discuss one of the 42's central themes. In this case, whether fantasy genres, amid the current wave of dystopias, should recreate more or less optimistic futures in their works. Do the authors bear any responsibility, or are they protected by the freedom to create? How do they combine denunciation and criticism with the need to change the most apocalyptic imagery, which is currently at the service of the system? Do they take this into account when writing? This year, moderated by the international specialist Alexander Páez, Saturday's big event will bring together Tim Pratt (famous for his Heirs of Grace saga), Wu Ming-Yi (The Man with the Compound Eyes), Cat Rambo (whose short stories have won many awards), Ann Leckie (Ancillary Justice), Ada Hoffman (with her The Outside saga), Malka Older (The Mimicking of Known Successes) and Steven Erikson (creator of the immense Malaz saga). Two poker handswith four aces, in an open game where, you can be sure, no one wants to lose.
