Book Club “The identity of the body from various perspectives” suggests reading three books:
Dones? Homes? Sexe i gènere, biologia i cultura (Women? Men? Sex and gender, biology and culture), by Jordi Casanova i Roca, Coconut, by Kopano Matlwa, and The Abandoned Baobab, by Ken Bugul, with three distinct perspectives on bodies shaped and influenced by diverse viewpoints which explore intercultural understanding as a framework for a pluralistic world where all values are equally respected. Human beings are shaped as bodies that are both interpreted and the result of biology (how we are born) and culture (how we are raised). But what is the body that we inhabit? What do others perceive and interpret when they look at us? And when we look at others? From what perspective do we view everything we see? We will reflect on all of these questions.
