Hernán Díaz and Jordi Puntí
In this Dialogue, moderated by Borja Bagunyà, Hernán Díaz and Jordi Puntí will be talking about their novels Fortuna [Trust] (Anagrama/Periscopi, 2023) and Confeti [Confetti] (Òmnium Cultural/Edicions Proa). Two novels set in the United States at the start and the middle of the 20th century, where the protagonists of their stories take in the voluptuousness of a century full of promises and mirages.
Hernán Díaz grew up in Sweden, studied in London and now lives in Brooklyn, New York. A writer and editor, he has written Borges, between history and eternity (Bloomsbury, 2012) and he is the editor of Revista Hispánica Moderna [Modern Hispanic Journal] and assistant director of the Hispanic Institute at Columbia University. It won the William Saroyan International Prize, was a finalist for the Pulitzer and PEN/Faulkner Prizes, and Publishers Weekly listed it as one of the ten best books of 2017; it also won the Jury Prize at the Festival America in Paris and the New American Voices Prize, among others. Trust was one of the five best books of 2022, according to The New York Times, nominated for the Booker Prize and winner of the Kirkus Fiction Prize.
Jordi Puntí is the author of three books of short stories: Pell d’armadillo [Armadillo Skin], Animals tristos [Sad Animals] and Això no és Amèrica [This Is Not America]. In 2014, he received the prestigious Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers scholarship, to the New York public library, to work on a narrative project, enabling him to carry out research for a year, the starting point for his novel Confeti, winner of the 2023 Sant Jordi Prize.
