Barcelona’s LGTBI centre is holding its annual festival on Saturday 18 May, as part of the International Day Against LGTBI-Phobia. This year’s festival at the Centre is extra special, as it also commemorates the fifth anniversary of the facility’s inauguration, in January 2019.

The programme includes morning activities in the LGTBI Centre and on Carrer Comte Borrell, aimed at diverse family audiences, and then in the afternoon, for the first time, the festivities move to Plaça Catalunya, where a large stage will be the venue for various musical performances.

The festivities begin at 11 am. In Carrer Comte Borrell, there will be a special episode of Kobra Kuir, the talk show presented by Norma Mor / Muerte a la Norma which will include various interviews and surprises. There will also be space for the theatrical show Caída libre para personas con vértigo [Free Fall for People with Vertigo], by the Bragacadavra theatre company.

Throughout the morning, there will also be a curated-art market run by Andreu Llorca, featuring jewellery, ceramics, textile art and illustrations, among other things, which will also have a children’s care and play area. The morning’s activities will close with a cumbia dance-music session from Missex.

Meanwhile, inside the LGTBI Centre, there will be a story-telling workshop for children between the ages of 3 and 12, run by Sara Manubens; the performative talk Los careos de mi copla, a musical itinerary through the pasodobles and other music from the 1970s and ‘80s, guided by Fito Conesa, and the tarot workshop El llenguatge dels ocells [The Language of Birds], by Lu Chiegati.

You can also visit the audiovisual installation Un Mundo Que No Es El Nuestro [A World That Isn’t Ours], by the Palestinian artist Maria Zreiq, who works on memory, nostalgia and resistance in times of social and political revolt. Visitors can also see the exhibitions Un archivo inexistente [A Non-existent Archive], by Felipe Rivas San Martín, and Encarnar la ferida [Embodying the Wound], by cymbionte colectiv_.

In the afternoon, and for the first time, the festivities move to Plaça Catalunya, where a large stage will be the venue for various musical performances, presented by the witty, pointed and irreverent Brigitta Lamoure.

All the activities run by the LGTBI Centre are free and open to all. Part of the activities have been funded by a contribution from Barcelona City Council’s tourism tax.
