A new lobby and lift have been installed at the L1 interchange at Plaça Espanya
The new concourse on L1 opposite the Les Arenes shopping centre, which includes a lift to the platform towards the Bellvitge Hospital, is now open.

A new L1 station concourse at the Plaza Espanya interchange and a lift allowing people with limited mobility to access the platform towards Bellvitge Hospital is now operational. With these elements and the recent start-up of the lift on Carrer de Tarragona, there is now a route adapted to the platform in this direction.
The Plaça Espanya interchange currently has three stations: two metro stations (L1 and L3) and one Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) station, with over 18 million people passing through each year. The entire FGC station has now been adapted, and work is currently being done to adapt the L1 and L3 stations and the routes between them and with FGC.
To complete this adaptation, work is being done to reconfigure the current interchange footbridge between platforms on L1, remodel the existing concourse on L3, and install several lifts to ensure connectivity between the stations’ various levels. These works, promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Department of Territory, with an investment of 13.2 million euros and are funded by the ERDF fund.
Improvements to the surrounding area
Simultaneously, urban development work in the area surrounding the shopping centre is underway, allowing the bus lane leading up Carrer de Tarragona to be reopened to traffic in April.
In addition, the Department will solicit bids for other improvements to the Plaça Espanya interchange, including the improvement of evacuation and ventilation systems, with a total investment of nearly 10 million euros.
A more easily accessible network
Currently, 152 of the 163 stations on the Barcelona area metro network have been adapted, accounting for 93% of the total. Work is underway to complete the network’s adaptation and improve the accessibility of already adapted stations.
