Travelling by bike

Barcelona is promoting the use of bicycles as an urban means of transport and has a very ambitious bike-lane plan which fosters safe driving that respects all other uses of public roads.

Bicycles must have lights attached to them, white at the front and red at the back, as well as refractors and a bell. Where travelling through inter-city roads (linking one city to another), cyclists must wear helmets. It is not so common inside cities, but there are an increasing number of cyclists who are wearing helmets as a means of protection. Children must wear a helmet when cycling.

Our website on bicycles provides you with further information on cycling through the city.

Travelling by scooter

The way we get about the city has been changing and scooters, electric wheels and other personal-mobility vehicles are becoming increasingly common. Barcelona has its own pioneering regulations for ensuring the safety and protection of people who use such means of transport as well as pedestrians.

Consult the regulations and tips for using scooters.
