Brexit and international mobility of employees: Is your company ready? Do you know the practical implications?

Among Brexit’s many other impacts, it will mean changes in the international mobility processes and conditions of staff from the United Kingdom, both those already working in our companies and those who may be hired in the future.

Understanding and adapting to the new situation is vital for successful mobility and expatriation processes. Companies in Catalonia who have or want to hire British employees must quickly understand and adapt to the new situation and leverage the opportunities that also arise out of the new situation.

We have therefore arranged a working breakfast to examine the practical aspects and answer any questions arising from the new situation:

  • Migratory aspects: recommendations for residents pre- and post-Brexit, registration certificate and Aliens Office (Oficina de Extranjería). What paperwork is needed? Do new British employees in Spain need a visa?
  • Impact on taxes: What effects will it have on tax returns in Spain? How does it affect the exit tax (impuesto de salida)?
  • Changes in Social Security and pensions: Changes in contributions and aggregation of periods, transferring pensions, maintaining contributions in the UK Social Security system. How does it affect health care and the health card?
  • Other practical aspects on attracting talent.

Experts in international mobility from Mercer will be taking part and the breakfast will be held in collaboration with the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain and the British Consulate General in Barcelona.
