Where to watch the America's Cup
The America's Cup is on! A variety of venues are available to watch the six teams race their boats across the water. These include beaches, viewpoints, two fan zones and the Race Village – a 25,000 square metre area on the Moll de la Fusta quay. There is no need to buy tickets to watch the America’s Cup races live. The qualifying regatta starts on Thursday 22 August and runs until Sunday 25 August. The main competition will take place from Thursday 29 September to 27 October (dates may vary depending on the weather), alongside the Unicredit Youth America’s Cup (10 to 26 September) and the Puig Women America’s Cup (29 September to 13 October). The competition always starts at 2 pm and can be watched from the beach, but there are also several venues for those who want to be closer to the action.
Race Village
Located on the Moll de la Fusta quay, this large 25,000 square metre venue combines entertainment, culture and good food. On competition days there will be performances on stage with the sailors, and from 30 August there will be shows as part of the Cultural Regatta programme.
The food area will focus on Catalan cuisine, with renowned restaurants taking part on a weekly basis. Local produce will be featured in the barbecue area of the Race Village, with fresh fish from the Barcelona Fishermen’s Guild and meat and vegetables from the Barceloneta Municipal Market. Admission is free, although capacity will be monitored.
Two fan zones and two viewpoints
Two areas with giant screens and food options will be set up in Plaça del Mar and near Bogatell. These are also free and will open at midday.
There are two viewpoints where you can watch the competition from close up: Plaça de la Rosa dels Vents, below the W Hotel, is ideal for watching the start and finish of the races, and Port Olímpic, with its new breakwater, is another designated area for watching the America’s Cup.
Public transport is recommended to get to the different viewing areas. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona has increased its services and the “Getting there” website has a special section to follow the latest mobility updates, as there may be disruptions to private car traffic.
