Rumba takes centre stage on a night of music dedicated to the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. This year marks their 25th anniversary.
This year it will be 25 years since those heady days that changed the city’s destiny forever, the Olympic Games that, from 25 July to 9 August 1992, were the focus of attention of spectators all over world and put Barcelona on the map for good. The Grec is joining in the celebrations by hosting a huge party with a rhythm that was the star a quarter of a century ago, but which today continues to be one of the city’s signs of identity: rumba.
A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since that night of rumba when Constantino Romero said the famous words, "athletes, get down off the stage". However, not only has the Catalan rumba scene not disappeared, but it keeps growing and evolving to fuse with a thousand and one styles or to take the newest and most modern forms. The invited artists will demonstrate this for you on a very special night that, once again, promises to make Montjuïc – and the whole city – dance!
