Two of the most outstanding musical projects on the Catalan independent music scene share the stage on an exceptional night when they will perform numbers from their latest albums.
Those who doubt the ability and the talent of Catalan artists to make a name for themselves everywhere ought to take a look at the finest moments of Mishima, the band led by David Carabén which has played more than once at such major festivals as Primavera Sound, but also in Berlin, New York and many more cities where audiences have passionately applauded their set. Here they show once again why they have become a legend of Catalan indie music, playing the songs from their latest disc, Ara i res, an improved, distilled version of Mishima. Their eighth disc, recorded once more with Peter Deimel at the Black Box Studio in Angers (France), is at once more sentimental and cynical than previous offerings, more literary, but simpler and brighter as well. At times, however, it can be dark and gloomy too.
Opening the show, however, will be Atlantis, the new disc by Joan Miquel Oliver. The Majorcan musician, who was the heart and soul of the defunct Antònia Font, broadens his range of musical styles, incorporating rhythms ranging from anti-folk to electro and from rumba to funk, via pop. The result is songs with lyrics of high literary quality that talk about people: individuals and how they relate to the society they live in, children, lost civilizations and so many men and women who, like us, are seen to be amazed by their own existence.
