Time Pieces

In his latest album, a musician who composed the soundtracks for some of the best-known films of his father, Clint Eastwood, now pays homage to jazz music from the nineteen fifties and sixties.

Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino... these are amongst the films for which this musician, composer and actor provided the music, although the soundtracks are not his creation alone. Kyle Eastwood grew up listening to jazz greats like Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Miles Davis, and it is therefore no surprise that this music resonates in his compositions. He released his first album, From there to here, in 1998, but one of his most successful recordings is Paris Blue (2004), on which he fuses jazz and groove with pop and electronic touches. Eastwood has just released Time Pieces, on which he pays tribute to jazz from the late fifties and early sixties, sounds that, as he himself says, have never ceased to fascinate him since he discovered them as a teenager. On it, he is accompanied by a quintet of musicians, trying to recreate collective sound, so quickly recognised, that the bands of those times served up but, at the same time, seeking a balance between a look back at the past and contemporary ways of interpreting tradition.
