THE MOMENT OF (THE OTHER) TRUTH: THE 42 AWARDS CEREMONY
To close out the programme of events for Friday, 8 November, Fabra i Coats will host the most iconic moment of the 42 Festival: the presentation of the awards that bear its name. In line with the Ictineus, Ignotus, Kelvins and Hugos, since its first edition, the Festival’s prestigious panels have been giving out awards for the best works in the fantastical genres published in the previous year, with winners receiving publicity for their works and a trophy designed by Tono Cristòfol. The panel, made up of Karen Madrid, Miquel Codony, Tatiana Dunyó and Cristina Xifra for Catalan-language works, and Borja Bilbao, Leticia Lara, Daniel Pérez and Carla Plumed for Spanish-language works, will be tasked with deciding on the awards in the same categories as last year: best original work in Catalan, best original work in Spanish, best work translated into Catalan, best work translated into Spanish, best classic translated into Catalan, breakthrough work of the year written in Catalan, breakthrough work in Spanish, the 2024 honorary award, the Alba 42 award for YA fantastic genres, which were added to the festival in 2022, and the equivalent award for a YA novel in Spanish.
If you attend the ceremony live, you’ll be able to watch the award recipients – whose identities are kept secret until the last minute – collect their prizes, all while enjoying the music of author, DJ and genre music expert Milo J. Krmpotić. An updated list of winners will be posted on the festival website after the awards have been presented.
