HOW TO ILLUSTRATE AND DESIGN URSULA K. LE GUIN’S BOOKS
If illustrating science fiction or fantasy is always a challenge to begin with, illustrating the works of pacifist, feminist and environmentalist author Ursula K. Le Guin, considered one of the greatest of all time, is an even more formidable challenge. If you add in the fact that it’s part of an ambitious project that has seen publishing house Raig Verd publish twenty-something Catalan-language Le Guin titles and editions so far, following an acclaimed set of harmonious design, aesthetic and artistic criteria, the feat is obviously worth examining at length. And that’s just what we’ll do, on-screen images included, in this second session of the 42 Festival’s LeGuinCon, where we’ll be joined by the architects of this visual mission, who just happen to be three of the four creators of the graphics for our Festival as well: Agustín Comotto, Tono Cristòfol and Maria Picassó. The mind behind the project, publisher Laura Huerga, will guide the three of them in discussing their work on Le Guin’s books, as well as their interpretation of the author and their approach to celebrating and complementing her inexhaustible prose. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind opportunity to read Le Guin through images.
