Elaine Vilar Madruga
Elaine Vilar Madruga, born in Havana in 1989, is considered one of the most powerful voices of the new Latin American literature boom. Her works have received numerous awards for the personal way she blends realism and the fantastic, exploring the limits of literary genres in order to ultimately transcend them in a constant reflection on the individual politics of the body, power systems, dissidence in the face of oppression and new ways of understanding feminism. Recent works include La tiranía de las moscas [translated into English as The Tyranny of Flies] (Barrett) and El cielo de la selva [The Heavens of the Jungle] (Lava).
