DRAGON TOUR AT THE 42 FESTIVAL: FIRE-BREATHING BARCELONA
Literary dragons, which will be featured in the main exhibition space at Fabra i Coats and covered in some of the roundtable discussions, will be one of the main themes of the 2024 edition of the 42 Festival. Celebrating the legend of St George (the patron saint of Catalonia), the Chinese Year of the Dragon, the wealth of iconic imagery associated with Drakcelona and the phenomenon of Rebecca Yarros’s saga, this year’s 42 Festival is offering a new literary tour of the city, spanning Parc de la Ciutadella and Plaça Reial, to highlight just how much we’re surrounded by these extraordinary mythological beings that are omnipresent in literature, from much of the mythological canon to the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, Ursula K. Le Guin and George R. R. Martin, as well as in audiovisual genres, from Hayao Miyazaki to Toriyama’s Dragon Ball. This tour will reveal spaces, images and hidden references covering everything and everyone from Mercè Rodoreda to Víctor Nubla, from Gaudí to Valle-Inclán and from manga to video games. A soaring journey through the city that couldn’t be any more passionate, topical or literary if Michael Ende’s Falkor were the guide.
