DISSECTING JOE ABERCROMBIE: “BEST SERVED COLD”
One the specialities of the Phantastica.com school consists of taking the start of a fantastic genre book, analysing it in depth and getting as much out of it as possible to expose all its secrets, strengths and even some flaws. This activity is perfect for readers who want to be better readers, authors who want to be better authors, editors who want to be better editors, and those who fall into all three categories. Above all, it’s an inspiring experience, an epiphany, even. For this workshop, the head of the school, Sergi Viciana, will dissect one of the most iconic works of grimdark genius Joe Abercrombie: Best Served Cold. Using the beginning, Viciana will lay the text bare to see the resources the author uses, how he foreshadows later events, and the tools that may or may not be fully imitable but that are available to anyone who wants to try them out. Come with pen and paper. More than one pen. And lots of paper.
