David Uclés
David Uclés, born in Úbeda in 1990, holds an undergraduate and master’s degree in translation and interpreting, and is also an author, music and illustrator whose novels include El llanto del león [The Lion’s Cry], which won the Complutense Literature Award, and Emilio and October. He’s made a name for himself with his recent La península de las casas vacías [The Peninsula of Empty Houses] (Siruela), which brings together the Spanish Civil War and magic realism and has had over half a dozen print runs in just a few months. It’s the result of 15 years of work and an exhaustive journey through documents and memories from all over Spain, supported with the Leonardo and Montserrat Roig grants.
