Miquel Codony and Borja Bilbao, panel members for the fourth edition of the 42 Awards in Catalan and Spanish, will speak with the 2024 winners in attendance about their works. It will be an opportunity to hear from the authors of the best fantastic genre books of the previous year, reflecting the 42 Festival’s commitment to offering a platform, through its awards, that promotes, recognises and publicises the best of the best currently on the scene. Following the conversation, the award winners in attendance will sign copies for audience members, and though we can’t yet announce their names (the panel’s deliberations are kept under wraps until the award ceremony, which will take place the night before), we can predict that they’ll be in line with the surprising and influential approach taken in previous years, in which the 42 Festival has highlighted what are now classics by Layla Martínez, Ferran Garcia, Marina Tena and Roser Cabré-Verdiell, not to mention works by well-established authors participating in this edition, such as Emily St. John Mandel, Antoni Munné-Jordà and Ted Chiang. There are no blind leaps of faith in the panel’s decisions: they choose the award winners with care and confidence.
