WITCHES, GHOSTS AND CASTLES: THE HISTORY OF GOTHIC, ACCORDING TO ROGER LUCKHURST
From the ruins of a haunted castle to the films of Jordan Peele, Gothic is perhaps the subgenre that has bequeathed most avatars to the eternal tradition of trying to scare people... Few know more about the Gothic tradition within and beyond literature than Roger Luckhurst, the author of a number of books on the history of science fiction and horror. His latest work, the monumental Gothic: An Illustrated History (Blume, 2021), thoroughly examines the history and relevance of Gothic, not only in literature, but also in the audiovisual world, with examples from art and cinema, among many others. In a conversation with horror writer Isabel del Río, Luckhurst will tell us about the history and popularity of this immortal genre, based on his long career as a researcher and essayist.
